A custom made sofa means the design itself is created for you: the silhouette, dimensions, seat depth, arm height, and cushion configuration. Nothing comes from a template. Interior designer Mark Alexander hand-sketches every commission after visiting, assessing the room’s architecture and proportions before a single dimension is decided.

Standard sofas are sized to fit delivery vans and sell to broad audiences; not to anchor a 6-metre living room or sit at the correct visual weight relative to a specific ceiling height. The sofa is the largest single piece of furniture in most living spaces. Get the proportion wrong and the whole room feels off, regardless of what else is in it.

What Goes Into the Build

Interior designer Mark Alexander builds using solid timber frames: not MDF or composite materials. Cushioning density is selected around how the sofa will be used. Fabrics and leathers are sourced from premium Australian and international suppliers and reviewed in the actual room, in its real light. Every custom made  sofa is assembled in Melbourne under Mark Alexander’s direct oversight, from the first cut to the final stitch.
