The making of an upholstered piece begins long before the fabric is selected. It starts with an idea, an understanding of how the furniture should look, feel and live within its surroundings. From the first sketch, Mark Alexander develops the proportions, silhouette and details of the piece before bringing the design into his own manufacturing process. Every stage remains connected to the original vision, from the construction of the frame through to the final upholstery.
The upholstery is where this process comes together. Once the form has been carefully crafted, fabric introduces the qualities that make the piece feel complete—the softness of the surface, the depth of the texture, the richness of the colour and the tactile experience of the furniture. Premium European fabrics are selected with the same consideration as every other element, allowing the upholstery to enhance the form and become an integral part of the story behind the piece.
FABRIC CARE
The occasional spill is simply part of everyday living. Gently blot the affected area with water and a clean microfibre cloth, using a little mild soap for more persistent marks. Carefully remove any remaining residue before allowing the fabric to air dry naturally. Simple, considered care helps preserve the fabric’s appearance and character over time.
