The making of an upholstered piece begins long before the fabric is selected. It starts with an idea, an understanding of how the furniture should look, feel and live within its surroundings. From the first sketch, Mark Alexander develops the proportions, silhouette and details of the piece before bringing the design into his own manufacturing process. Every stage remains connected to the original vision, from the construction of the frame through to the final upholstery.
It is through this final stage that the furniture finds its expression. A carefully selected European fabric can transform the way a piece is perceived, introducing colour, texture, softness and depth to the form beneath it. Subtle or expressive, each fabric is chosen to work with the design rather than simply cover it, completing the journey from concept to a finished piece of furniture.
FABRIC CARE
A little considered care helps preserve the beauty of the upholstery through everyday living. For spills, gently blot the area with water and a clean microfibre cloth, using a small amount of mild soap where needed. Remove any remaining residue and allow the fabric to air dry naturally.
